2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia vs. 2021 BMW 3 Series: Race-Inspired Perfection
Being a perfect embodiment of Alfa Romeo's La meccanica delle emozioni (the mechanics of emotion) design focus, the Giulia sets the pace for the premium mid-size sedan segment. Class-leading power, more standard features, Italian styling, driver assistance technologies and more combine to make the 2021 model year the best yet.
The Giulia is also best described when compared to the competition. Here, we compare it to the 2021 BMW 3 Series.
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia raises the performance benchmark
The Giulia initiates its class-leading power with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Featured in the Sprint, Ti and Ti Sport trims, it delivers 280 horsepower and 306 lb-ft of torque. Alfa Romeo optimizes the engine to achieve an acceleration of 0 to 97 km/h in just 5.1 seconds, which is very impressive in this power range - but the torque also provides plenty of low-end response that will transform any commute into a joy ride.
The BMW 3 Series presents an engine lineup that attempts to compete with the Giulia. The 330i xDrive Sedan has a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that develops 255 horsepower. This falls short compared to Giulia's 2.0 litre. The 330e XDrive doesn't catch up either, with lower acceleration capabilities. The BMW M3 and M3 Competition have the most powerful engines offered in the 3 Series lineup, but the driving dynamics and style don't come close to what the Giulia has in store, especially with the Quadrifoglio.
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio closes the case
The heart and soul of the Giulia family is the Quadrifoglio. It most directly expresses Alfa Romeo's motorsports expertise through a 2.9-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder that outputs 505 horsepower. With an acceleration of 0 to 97 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, it becomes a world-class performance sedan.
Each Giulia features a near perfect weight balance as well as high-tech parts such as a lightweight, class-exclusive carbon fibre driveshaft, and more unique elements like the Alfa DNA Drive Mode selector that provides outstanding dynamics.
Inside, the Giulia surpasses the 3 Series in the styling department, with many interior colour schemes, refined materials and unique feel. The 3 Series offers a much more basic interior.
